It is branded Mathieson over an asterick, over Glasgow .No ''and sons" only ''mathieson, asterick, Glasgow."
The front larger plane is not branded, front bun The knocked off, wee V cut into top centre of both side walls, about 1/2" by 1" with the 1" leg parallel to the cutter (does that make sense?) I suspect that it was botched to take a thin Stanley cutter.
I believe the Mathieson sons came Into business about 1840, which may explain the stamp only "Mathieson asterisk Glasgow " on the rear plane .
adjustable throat, another The rear plane has an strange feature . It also has an owners name cut scrolled into the levercap, a very ornate ''J Banks'' with vines and leaves around it, Upside down below the brand, which is right way up if you look at the plane from the front.
I feel that both planes have similar tote structure or shape, both are screwed, both are mahogany, both look Scottish with a protruding sole at the front, both are cast iron.
Can anyone from the club help me with either plane please? Sincerely, Arthur peters.
